Bio
Petya Lukyanov is an independent artist from Moscow whose practice focuses primarily on photography, while also incorporating video and sound. With a background in experimental electronic music and the founding of an independent cassette label, his work is informed by long-term engagement with lo-fi processes, repetition, and the material qualities of media. These early experiences continue to shape the visual language of his current practice.
The photographic work centers on atmosphere, ambiguity, and non-linear perception. Images often avoid clear narratives or documentary clarity, instead engaging with ambient sensibilities, everyday absurdity, and subconscious associations. Particular attention is given to degraded imagery, visual noise, errors, and subtle tension within seemingly quiet scenes. Photography is approached as a tool for observing transitional states and fragile moments that resist direct interpretation, operating at the intersection of image, sound, and memory, with an emphasis on process over spectacle.
